Much like chapter 13, we must not get carried away in debates about the nature of certain spiritual gifts. There is great value in wrestling over the nature of those gifts, but we can’t do so at the expense of Paul’s overall message.
It is all too easy for us to get caught up in what we need or what we want out of church. And that is important, but it is not all that matters. 1 Corinthians 14:1-25 reminds us that we gather to build up the whole. The gathering is not just about us as individuals but about how all of us collectively, as Christ’s body, are growing up together.
