Marriage should be a source of great joy to us, but a fulfilling marriage doesn’t simply happen. We must do the hard work of cultivating and keeping love. We must choose to delight in our spouse rather than mold them into whatever we would like them to be. At the same time we must work to keep out of our marriage those distractions which seek to disrupt the love and intimacy we have cultivated. As the King and the Bride progress toward marriage, we can learn from them how look like to cultivate and keep love and intimacy in marriage.
In a similar way this also becomes a blueprint for life with Christ. Christ has laid the groundwork by calling us as his own and setting his love upon us, but even still we must daily choose to delight in Christ and all that he is. We must work hard to “catch the foxes” that threaten to disrupt our fellowship and intimacy with him.
